Bangladesh's general point-to-point inflation rate reached 8.58 per cent in January—slightly up from 8.49 per cent last December, official statistics show. The slight rise was primarily attributed to a surge in food inflation. The non-food inflation rate declined to 8.81 per cent in January from 9.13 per cent in the previous month. Inflation in both rural and urban areas saw slight rises.
