Sale Of ReadyMade Garments Registers Sharp Decline
Extraordinary high prices of sacrificial animals and other essential items has compelled many families to stay away from readymade garments markets although only 2 days left in Eid-ul-Azha. Clothing vendors in the city reported sluggish sales during the shopping season up to Eid-ul-Azha. However, the affluent people can afford readymade clothes on Eid-ul-Azha as well which increases sale as compared to usual sale. Normally, the sale of readymade garments on Eid-ul-Azha demands much less as compared to the sale during Eid-ul-Fitr.
Besides preparing for performing religious obligation of performing Qurbani, general public find their garment shopping budgets further constrained. “Household expenditure has doubled and tripled in last one year but salary of people are the same as before. There’s no question arise to buy new cloth this year on Eid-ul-Azha, said a salaried person. A garment seller said that business over the past week was much worse than usual.
He expressed that the majority is highly dependent on tailors to get their Eid dress stitched. Keeping the situation in view, the tailors have been found to delay orders and also demand double charges for their skill.
A quick look at the price tags of readymade garments in the windows indicates that shop owners decided to slash prices or hanged posters offering sale at reduced price to encourage customers. No rush was witnessed in city market making purchasing for Eid-ul-Azha. The families who visit markets also return home after window shopping as the rate of garment shows and other items are unaffordable for majority of them. According to shopkeepers, sale registered sharp decline as compared to last year in the sales of the most popular commodities associated with Eid – primarily clothes and shoes.
