Speakers For Capturing Maximum Share Of Technical Textile
Technical textile is the future of Pakistani export and the government as well as the textile’s units owners should evolve a comprehensive strategy to adopt and promote it in their respective units on war footings, said Zia Alamdar Hussain acting president of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI).
Addressing the first national conference on Technical Textile in National Textile University (NTU) here on Monday, he said that Pakistan is blessed with fertile land and is included among top 10 textile exporting countries of the world. “We are also ranked as fourth largest cotton producing country of the world”, he said and added that the share of textile in our national GDP is around 8.5 per cent while more than 15 million people are directly or indirectly related with this sector.
He also underlined the importance as this major foreign exchange earning sector of the national economy and said that despite of all these plus points, our total share in international textile export is hardly one per cent which is an eye opener for our policy-makers.
Commenting on this situation, he said that it is only due to the fact that we failed to switch over to the value edition in this important segment of our economy. He said that China and other developed countries took a lead and gradually switched over from the century old practices to modern and dynamic technical textile. He said that the market share of China in technical textile in 2013 was 28 per cent and according to an estimate the textile market of technical textile will swell to 16.38 billion dollars in 2018. Hence, we must try our best to capture maximum share of the technical textile. He further said that presently, the technical textile is restricted to only 50 countries out of total 196 countries. It means that we have still 75 per cent unexplored markets which could be utilised for the export of technical textile to these countries. He said that the government should also give due preference to the technical textile in our trade policy by allocating maximum funds for the development in this emerging sector.
He also appreciated the organisation of this conference and said that government should take appropriate steps to promote technical textile in addition to its dissemination down to the small and medium industrial units.
The conference was also addressed by Professor Dr Arshad Ali executive director HEC, Imtiaz Rastgar, Naveed Fazli, Dr Khurram Khawaja , Rehan Naseem Bharara, Dr Tanveer Hussain and Dr Yasir Nawab. Earlier, talking to newsmen, Syed Zia Alamdar Hussain acting president of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) has stressed upon the Ministry of Textile Industry to take up the issue of Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC) immediately with the government to ensure its payment from the refund regime instead of pressurising industrialist to pay it from their already depleting financial resources
